About the San Jacinto Project

A New Initiative Dedicated to Powering the Next Century of Human Progress

The world is not on track to achieve any of these objectives. Despite tremendous efforts and laudable intentions, the world is not currently on a path to alleviate energy poverty or achieve ambitious Net Zero emissions goals. Worse, conversations have become overtly politicized rather than practical, hampering progress. Some proposals suggest spending more than $275 trillion up from $65 trillion approximately five years ago, without reconciling how such sums could be practical. Without a more comprehensive, multifaceted, and implementable approach, none of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be achieved. Clean, affordable, reliable energy is essential for ending poverty and hunger, promoting good health, clean water, and sanitation, reducing inequalities, and providing decent work and economic growth for all of the earth’s soon-to-be 10 billion inhabitants.

The San Jacinto Project aims to bring together leading thinkers in an apolitical, non-partisan and open-minded setting to offer practical new thinking. We envision a vibrant future of sustainable growth and more broadly shared prosperity reliably powered by the energy we need. We believe we must continue to be stewards of all aspects of the earth and sky while prioritizing the six billion people who do not yet have the same living standards others enjoy. An initiative based in Austin, Texas, we also believe America needs a more hopeful, constructive voice. Like other nations, we need a plan to meet this once-in-a-generation challenge without compromising American competitiveness and national security.

The San Jacinto Project will convene a three-day conference in Austin, Texas on May 8-10, 2022. This gathering will include leading scientists, economists, energy experts, environmentalists, public and private investors, activists, policymakers, and corporate leaders, by invitation only. This conference will be the Project’s first step on its mission to offer a comprehensive, thoughtful and implementable agenda which ensures sufficient clean, reliable and affordable energy to power the next century of human progress.
